The castle of Verrucola

The spectacularly huge Verrucola castle is a delightful example of medieval architecture. Built in the 1300 by Spinetta Malaspina the Great, it consists of several buildings dominated by a square keep and still visible are several "layers2 of walls with their openings leading to the village below. In the 16 th century a church was built beside the castle with its fine sandstone arched open gallery. It is privately owned.
